Porsche Announces Basic Taycan Variant

Porsche today announced the entry variant of the Taycan, which is available for order now and is expected to arrive at U.S. dealerships in early spring 2021.

It has rear-wheel drive (which saves about 200 pounds by not having the front engine) and is less powerful than the 4S, Turbo and Turbo S versions, but other than that, it is like all other Taycan models.

The main difference is the acceleration – 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds, compared to 2.6, 3.0 and 3.8 seconds in the four-wheel drive versions.

There will be two battery options already known:

  • Porsche Taycan – $ 79,990 (MSRP)
effectively $ 73,840 after DST ($ 1,350) and deduction of federal tax credit ($ 7,500)
    79.2 kWh drums
    rear-wheel drive – 300 kW (402 hp) and 254 lb.ft. of torque
    0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds
the quarter mile in 13.7 seconds
    maximum speed of 143 mph (230 km / h)
Fast DC charging up to 225 kW; 5-80% SOC in 22.5 minutes
AC charging: 19.2 kW integrated charger
three years of free charging from Electrify America
    updates over the air
  • Porsche Taycan with Performance Battery Plus – $ 85,680 (MSRP); $ 5,690 more
effectively $ 79,530 after DST ($ 1,350) and deduction of federal tax credit ($ 7,500)
    93.4 kWh drums
    rear-wheel drive – 350 kW (469 hp) and 263 lb.ft. of torque
    0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds
the quarter mile in 13.5 seconds
    maximum speed of 143 mph (230 km / h)
Fast DC charging up to 270 kW; 5-80% SOC in 22.5 minutes
AC charging: 19.2 kW integrated charger
three years of free charging from Electrify America
    updates over the air

The difference between the Taycan and the Taycan 4S is quite significant: close to $ 24,000 (the 4S starts at a suggested price of $ 103,800 and $ 109,370 with the larger battery).

The scope of the EPA and the energy efficiency figures were not disclosed.

Here are some things we know:

  • standard: 19-inch Taycan Aero wheels, six-piston front brakes and four-piston rear brakes (different wheel colors (shiny silver) and calipers (black) compared to 4S – red calipers and shiny black polished alloy wheels rays)
  • Typical of Porsche sports cars, Porsche Active Suspension Management is standard. This function is used to adjust the shock absorbers to suit the ride, from smooth for a comfortable road trip to a rigid one for a track or mountain road. For maximum flexibility, the suspension setting can be controlled independently via the touch screen or panel button or together with the powertrain calibration via the touch screen or dial optionally mounted on the steering wheel. Adaptive air suspension can be ordered as an option. “

The company says the RWD Taycan is the most powerful standard model variant that Porsche has ever made.

“Even with rear-wheel drive, the Taycan still expresses all the performance attributes of its most powerful brothers. With a drag coefficient of just 0.24, it remains the most aerodynamically efficient Porsche production (when equipped with the optional air suspension, the figure drops to 0.22). The low capacity battery gives the Taycan the lowest center of gravity of any Porsche roadster. “
