Popeyes is chasing Taco Bell over his ‘Chicken with Taco Sandwich’ item and suggests an alternative idea

Popeyes people are famous for frying chicken, but apparently they also know how to burn well.

On Tuesday, Popeyes took a not-so-subtle look at Taco Bell’s next “Chicken Sandwich Taco” – a new menu item announced by Taco Bell on Monday – instructing his customers to make their own “tacos” to from the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich.

The fast-food chain shared this “DIY food hack” in a TikTok tutorial presented by a Popeyes employee. In the clip, viewers were simply instructed to buy a Popeyes Chicken Sandwich, tear the chicken fillet in half and make two “tacos” by folding the loaves and stuffing the chicken inside.

“Celebrate #TacoTwosday with the new Popeyes Chicken Tacos DIY “, wrote Popeyes in social media. “The same chicken sandwich you love, but now in two tacos. Both folded for you.”

CHICK-FIL-A REMOVING TWO ITEMS FROM THE MENU

It is important to note that Popeyes did not call Taco Bell directly – instead, the tutorial simply suggested that pickles (which are an accessory to Popeyes Chicken Sandwich) are a suitable substitute for jalapenos (which come with Taco’s Chicken Taco Sandwich) Bell).

The cunning reference was not lost on social media, however. Social media users were quick to make the connection, with some urging Taco Bell to respond.

Taco Bell, for its part, has not yet launched its Chicken Taco Sandwich. The item, described as a sandwich / taco hybrid, is slated to begin testing in Nashville and Charlotte in March, before launching nationwide later this year.

Taco Bell’s most recent announcement comes as more restaurants are preparing to enter the “chicken sandwich war” and compete with the popular Popeyes chicken sandwich. Among those preparing to launch their own new offerings (reminiscent of the Popeyes chicken sandwich) are McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s.

Even KFC – a restaurant also owned by the parent company of Taco Bell, Yum! Brands – expanded its newest chicken sandwiches to restaurants across the country.
