Pope Francis’ personal doctor died of complications from COVID-19, according to a report.
Fabrizio Soccorsi, 78, was admitted to the Gemelli Hospital in Rome because of a previous health problem on December 26, reported the Catholic News Agency.
The cause of his death, however, was coronavirus complications, the vehicle said, citing the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano.
It is unclear when he last had direct contact with the pontiff.
Francis arrested Soccorsi and has his personal doctor in 2015.
The pope had announced on Saturday that he planned to bring a COVID-19 vaccine next week as part of a vaccination program at the Vatican.
“I believe that ethically everyone should get the vaccine,” said the Pope in an interview with TV channel Canale 5. “It is an ethical choice because you are playing with your health, with your life, but you are also playing with the lives of others . “
