Pope Francis “amazed” by the attack on the USA …

VATICAN CITY, Jan. 9 (Reuters) – Pope Francis said on Saturday he was “surprised” by the attack on the US Capitol earlier this week by supporters of President Donald Trump, and denounced the violence as an attack on democracy.

“I was surprised because they are very disciplined people in democracy,” the pontiff told Italian news channel Canale 5 in his first public comments on Washington’s chaos.

“There is always something that is not working … (with) people treading a path against the community, against democracy, against the common good,” he said. (Reporting by Crispian Balmer Written by Giulio Piovaccari Editing by Peter Graff)
