Pop-up clinics in Tampa offer single injection vaccine before eligibility expands

To make the vaccine easily accessible to those who want it before the vaccine’s eligibility expands on Monday, the city of Tampa will host vaccination clinics throughout the area over the weekend.

On Saturday, lines formed at Curtis Hixon Park two hours before the scheduled opening time, as no appointment is required to receive the vaccine at the pop-up clinics.

Many of those who are currently eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine chose to have the vaccine this weekend, before Monday’s eligibility expansion. Early next week, the vaccine will be available to all adults aged 18 and over. For those who choose to have the Pfizer vaccine, it will be available for those over 16 years of age.

Pop-up clinics will also take place on Sunday. It will not be necessary to make an appointment to receive the vaccine, and they will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

The clinics will be held at Curtis Hixon Park, Mary McLeod Bethune Homes and The Belmont Heights Estates. The clinic will operate from 10 am to 6 pm, or until the last of the 400 doses runs out.

The sites will distribute the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
