Poll: What ports and features do you want to return or arrive on the 2021 MacBook Pro?

We just received some exciting news from Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg today about the next generation of MacBook Pro notebooks. Although we already knew some details like 14 and 16 inch screen sizes and the move to Apple Silicon, an I / O expansion in addition to the USB-C ports, the return of MagSafe, a new design and much more now foreseen. What ports and features are you most interested in seeing return or arrive at the next generation MacBook Pro line?

Bloomberg’s Kuo and Mark Gurman reports today generally agree, with some minor differences in some respects.

If you want to go straight to the poll, you can go to the end or use the link in the index.

New MacBook Pro design

Overall, the reports say that we are looking at a new square design, similar to the lines of the iPhone 12 and iPad Pro. Kuo is calling this a major redesign, while Gurman is classing it more as a small change.

Getting rid of the Touch Bar

Kuo says Apple is abandoning the Touch Bar and Bloomberg says the company is testing the next generation MacBook Pro models without a Touch Bar, but it is not yet closed.

MagSafe returns

As for the details with which both reports agree, one of the most interesting is the return of MagSafe. This would be a fascinating twist, as Apple has switched to all USB-C / Thnderbolt since the 2016 update with the MacBook Pro line.

Bloomberg added the detail that the revived MagSafe for the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros will allow for faster charging.

I / O

Another exciting prediction is Kuo saying that the new MacBook Pro models will feature more integrated I / O ports. He didn’t specifically say which one, but the pre-2016 models featured an SD, HDMI and USB-A card slot.

mini LED

Another detail that Bloomberg shared is that these will be the first Apple notebooks with mini-LED technology. Read more about it in our complete guide here.

More

Interestingly, Apple has been asking customers for feedback on what they would change compared to the 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro M1. The most voted change by 9to5Mac readers last month was narrower bezels / updated design.

Poll: What do you want to see?

Notably, we haven’t heard of frequently requested features like 1080p FaceTime camera, Face ID or thinner bezels in today’s reports, but we will add them as options of your choice.

In the poll below, you can vote for more than one item – select everything you want on the latest generation Apple Silicon MacBook Pro machines that are due for release in the third quarter of 2021.
