The Politician raised his eyebrows on Monday night after publishing an article praising President Biden for a “no gaffe” debut as commander-in-chief, despite the president’s extremely limited availability for the press.
The evening edition of the Politico’s Transition Playbook, which presents itself as a “guide to the first 100 days of the Biden government”, questioned whether the new president, who has a reputation as a “gaffe machine”, has become a “disciplined messenger.”
“Two and a half months later, that is definitely the case,” Politico answered his own question. “The president has so far surprised some of his former colleagues and allies with a White House debut without a gaffe after a lifetime of verbal stumbling.”
As the article itself noted, Biden has not given a formal press conference since taking office and Wednesday’s session on ABC’s “Good Morning America” program will only be his second television interview as president.

“Biden’s availability for the press has been limited – both an attempt to synthesize the communication strategy and an implicit recognition that a lengthy interview or press conference presents new risks,” acknowledged Politico later.
On Twitter, Politico tried to summarize his last entry in the manual, writing “Two and a half months later, President Biden surprised some of his former colleagues and allies with a debut at the White House without a gaffe after a lifetime of verbal stumbling.”
Critics criticized this assessment on social media.
“He had countless gaffes!” National Review contributor Pradheep J. Shanker reacted. “Not to mention … thousands of children thrown in cages. Although, to be fair … I think this is not so much a gaffe as a disaster.”

“It’s not very difficult to do if you don’t speak to the press,” tweeted Reagan Batallion.

There have been more and more requests, including from members of the mainstream media, for Biden to give a formal press conference.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki recently told reporters that the president will hold his first press by the end of this month.
