Police: Woman shot dead in road violence incident on I-95

North Carolina officials say a Pennsylvania woman died after being shot in a traffic accident on Interstate 95

LUMBERTON, NC – North Carolina officials say a Pennsylvania woman died after being shot in a traffic accident on Interstate 95 while she and her husband were driving to the beach.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said on Friday that authorities were still looking for his killer after Thursday’s shooting.

The shooter was driving a silver or gray Chevy Malibu or Impala model 2010 with tinted windows.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that the woman who died was Julie Eberly, 47, from Manheim, Pennsylvania. Her husband, Ryan Eberly, was not hurt.

Authorities said the couple’s vehicle, unknowingly, approached the sniper’s vehicle while entering another runway.

“The suspect lowered the window and fired several shots at the passenger door, one of which hit Julie Eberly,” the statement said.

The car she was driving was going south, north of Lumberton. The city is south of Fayetteville and close to the South Carolina state line.

Julie Eberly was taken to a hospital, where she died.

“This was an innocent Pennsylvania family going to the beach on vacation,” said sheriff Burnis Wilkins. “Fortunately, they left their six children at home with their grandparents, but now these children have to live with the idea of their mother being murdered … in such a cowardly and meaningless way.”

The sheriff’s office said Friday morning in a Facebook post that hundreds of people contacted the office wishing to help the family.
