The accident happened around 2:30 pm on the Conchester Highway, near Cherry Tree Road, officials say.
The road was closed in both directions after the accident.
Chopper 6 showed serious damage to both vehicles, but information about the injuries was not immediately available.
“It was weird. It was crazy,” said Brey Dalton, who works at Exxon on 2400 Market Street and witnessed the accident.
The police say they are responding to a report of disorderly conduct.
Upper Chichester police said the patrol sergeant. Ken Massey saw the suspect trying to get a woman out of a car at the gas station.
Officials say a dispute occurred in Massey, who tried to launch his taser, but the suspect was too close.
The suspect managed to escape from the police and jumped into the police SUV. Dalton explained what he saw next.
“The next thing I know, I see the police car shoot and hit a truck that was entering the parking lot … and it took off,” said Dalton. “I’m thinking, a policeman really hit someone and left.”
Police say the truck driver tried to stop the suspect, but to no avail.
Investigators say the suspect fled at high speed down Market Street, then west on 322, where he collided with another vehicle after police said he crossed the central construction site.
Ryan Shomo, who also witnessed the incident, works near the scene of the accident.
“Probably the worst car accident I have ever seen. The car is just maimed,” said Shomo. The front from behind. “
The officer was treated and then released from a local hospital, officials say.
Police did not release the suspect’s name. He faces a number of possible charges, including felony assault and car theft.
“I’ve seen police officers stop people, but nothing like that … nothing like that,” added Dalton.
A 47-year-old woman traveling in the other vehicle involved in the accident is in serious condition, officials said.
The suspect is in critical condition at the last check.
The investigation is still ongoing.
