Police shoot, kill Blaine suspected of theft after chase near Braham, Minnesota.

The Bureau of Criminal Dethension is investigating a deadly police shooting near Braham, Minnesota, on Sunday after police said a call from a stolen vehicle in Blaine led to a chase.

According to the Blaine Police Department, one person was shot and killed by the police and another was arrested after the chase. Police say the suspects fired, hitting a K9 from the Anoka Police Department. Another police officer was hospitalized with injuries in an initial incident with the suspects in Blaine.

Police said the shooting and the chase were the end result of a call to a department store in Blaine on Sunday afternoon for a call to a stolen vehicle. There, the suspects fled the police and hijacked another vehicle nearby, police said.

“When the police arrived, they located the suspects in a stolen vehicle and the suspects fled the police at that location,” explained Chief Brian Podany.

Steve Lund said he was leaving his wife at Kohl’s when he saw Blaine’s police officers stopping in a car parked outside the store.

“They managed to take off and chased them down the parking aisles, I think it seemed pretty fast, but they chased them through the parking lot and managed to escape,” recalled Lund.

The suspects managed to reach another parking lot. “The suspects then, using a weapon, hijacked a nearby vehicle,” added Chief Podany. “Our officers then located that vehicle and the suspects fled while we tried to stop them.”

In the recently stolen vehicle, police said the suspects took off heading north on Highway 65.

“Due to the seriousness of the crimes, the police chased the vehicle north on Highway 65,” said the deputy.

The police did not say how fast they were driving or how long it took them to travel about 40 miles down the road near the town of Braham, only that it ended with the suspects’ vehicle being disabled.

“After the vehicle was deactivated, two adult men fled the vehicle and shots were fired,” said Chief Podany. “An Anoka canine was shot at this point and one of the suspects was shot here on the spot and declared dead on the spot.”

Anoka police confirm that their K9 Bravo was shot during the incident. After undergoing surgery. we have been informed that he is in a stable condition. The other person in the vehicle was arrested and police say they were not injured.

We also know that a Blaine police officer was hospitalized with some minor injuries during the initial Blaine incident.

Highway 65 was closed all afternoon while investigators worked to investigate the scene. Police have not yet identified the suspect who was shot and killed.
