Police search truck that did not stop after hitting SC woman

SUMTER, SC (AP) – South Carolina police are looking for a truck driver who ran over and killed a 23-year-old woman on the side of a highway in Sumter and did not stop.

Rebecca Brown was missing for six days before she was found dead on Tuesday on US 15, said Sumter Police in a statement.

An autopsy determined that she had been hit by a tractor trailer and investigators found a surveillance video of the same truck passing nearby companies, police said.

The cab of the truck that hit Brown is a white Cascadia Freightliner without a long cab. The right headlight area was damaged when Brown was hit, police said.

Brown was last seen on March 17 after leaving a convenience store and investigators believe she was killed shortly after, police said.

After Brown was reported missing, police examined the area with dogs and conducted an aerial search, but Brown was not found immediately, officials said.
