Colorado Governor Jared Polis and other elected leaders tweeted about the Boulder shooting, offering condolences and expressing anger. Polis said on monday he is in mourning with all the coloradenses and that “Today we saw the face of evil.”
State Representative Tom Sullivan also shared his condolences for the victims and their families and his outrage over the events. Sullivan lost his son in the filming of the Aurora theater in 2012. “I just don’t have the words and I do everything I can to maintain the strength I need to get through this day. We don’t have to live like this. We should do more!” he tweeted.
Representative Joe Neguse, who is sitting in the Boulder district, shared harsh words about the continuing tragedy that Americans face.
“Twenty-one years ago, as a young student in Douglas County, I joined many coloradans weeping for the victims of the terrible massacre at Columbine High, ten minutes from my school. Two years ago, I felt the fear that so many coloradans I heard about the shooting at STEM School in Highlands Ranch, where my niece – a kindergarten student – was arrested, while we all wept for the tragic loss of life. And tonight, I cry for my constituents’ families, who tragically lost their lives in yet another mass shooting. “

“Americans should feel safe in their supermarkets. They should feel safe in their schools, cinemas and communities. While Congress is hesitating to pass significant measures to prevent armed violence, Americans – and coloradans – are being murdered before our eyes. – day after day, year after year. “
It doesn’t have to be that way. There are steps we can take – and we must take – to protect our community; common sense and widely supported proposals that will save lives. If we are really committed to saving lives, then we must have the willpower to act and pass a significant arms reform. The time for inaction is over. “
