Yaun had just left work and they were both happy to be able to relax with a massage. While receiving treatment in separate rooms, González heard the sound of gunshots.

“About an hour later, almost at the end, I heard the shots,” he told the Spanish-language newspaper Mundo Hispánico. “I did not see anything. But I started to think that it was in the room where my wife was. “

When the police arrived at the scene, González told the Hispanic World that he was placed in the back of a patrol vehicle and detained by authorities. He tried to obtain information about what had happened to his wife, but said that his questions were initially answered.

Authorities later located the suspect, Robert Aaron Long, about 150 miles south of Atlanta, in Crisp County, and took him into custody.

González told the Hispanic World that he was detained for approximately four hours, until the investigation took the authorities to Long as the suspect.

“When they found out I was the husband, they said she was dead,” he said. “I wanted to know before.”

González said he was frustrated with the way he was treated, suggesting that it was “perhaps because I am Mexican”.

In the video interview for Mundo Hispánico, he pointed out marks on his arm that looked like they were from the handcuffs he was wearing the day before.

CNN tried to contact González, but so far it has been unsuccessful.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office did not respond to a request for comment.

A torn family

The couple recently married and had an 8-month-old daughter, according to Yaun’s sister, Dana Toole.

Toole said his sister had always put the family first and described Delaina as having a “wonderful, happy and optimistic personality”.

“Your family came first. Everything was your family,” said Toole.

Tool said the couple went to the spa to spend time together.

“They just went to spend some time alone, husband and wife,” she said. “Unfortunately, it went wrong. It was bad too fast.”

Yaun leaves behind a 13-year-old son as well.

“They took from me what was most valuable in my life,” González told the publication, adding: “This murderer who killed my wife only left me in pain.”

A department that faces doubts

González’s interview with Mundo Hispánico takes place when a spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office faces criticism for his description of the suspect’s actions.

“He was quite fed up and almost at the end of his line,” Captain Jay Baker told a news conference last week. “Yesterday was a very bad day for him, and that is what he did.”

Later, a photo allegedly posted by Baker showed T-shirts with a racist and anti-Asian message about Covid-19. The sheriff’s office told CNN last week that Baker was no longer the spokesman for the spa shooting case.
