Police on Saturday killed a man who was breaking into a Corvallis hotel and trying to get into guest rooms.
Corvallis Police Department said police officers responded about 3:40 am to a report of the man breaking into a Days Inn hotel, 1113 NW 9th St. A hotel official told dispatchers that the man was acting aggressively and trying to access guest rooms , according to police.
The police contacted the man, who had a knife, “and immediately asked for emergency cover,” the police said. The police shot the man shortly thereafter.
Authorities helped the man, a 32-year-old resident of Philomath, but he died on the spot.
Corvallis police did not detail the circumstances that led to the shooting. They said “policemen” were involved in the shooting, but did not say how many fired their weapons.
The officers involved were placed on administrative leave, a common practice after police shootings. Albany police are conducting an investigation.
The fatal police shooting was the second in Oregon in a few days.
A Salem police officer shot and killed a man after responding to reports of a person in crisis on Friday night.
The authorities did not publicly identify the men who were shot dead or the police officers involved in any of the incidents.
