Police detective surrenders, accused of drawing his gun during the NYE party and threatening 1 man – CBS Pittsburgh

PITCAIRN (KDKA) – A local police detective surrendered to face the charges after investigators said he drew his gun at a New Year’s party and stuck it in another man’s body.

Police say North Braddock police detective Craig Gibson has surrendered to police in Pitcairn. After being arrested at Allegheny County Jail, court records say Gibson has posted bail. He is currently suspended without pay.

According to the criminal complaint, witnesses told police that Gibson appeared drunk when he uninvited to a party on Thursday night. The police say he was with a friend.

The criminal complaint reports that four witnesses said Gibson had his badge visible and had a gun at his waist.

“An off-duty police officer brandishing a gun and having his badge, actually poking people with the gun out of his holster,” said Pitcairn police chief Scott Farally.

Police say people at the party asked him to keep the gun and his badge, “because it was unnecessary,” and that’s when investigators say Gibson pulled the gun and pushed it against a man’s body.

“In fact, he took the gun out of its holster and put it in other people’s ribs,” said Farally.

The victim and another man asked Gibson and his friend to leave.

The criminal complaint reports that the two men even discussed how to disarm Gibson “if it started to increase after he was told to leave”

However, the police say that Gibson and his friend left after the friend suggested they leave.

No one was injured in the incident.

“How can we build the bond within the community if we don’t have integrity and do these things to members of the community?” said Farally.

McKeesport’s Gibson is facing charges of terrorist threats, simple assault, harassment and reckless danger.

“We have no problem with him. Great officer, he does many things here. When I heard what happened, I was in shock, ”said North Braddock Police Chief Isaac Daniele. “We did a lot just in the last month to remove large amounts of heroin from the streets. Something like that is kind of like a kick down. ”

Gibson has a preliminary hearing for January 25.
