‘Police Academy’ star Marion Ramsey dead at 73

“Police Academy” star Marion Ramsey died at 73.

The comedy actress’s manager confirmed the news on Thursday afternoon – although no cause of death has been determined. However, Deadline reported that she had been ill recently.

Marion was best known for playing policeman Laverne Hooks in “Police Academy”. The star’s main role came in the 1984 hit starring Steve Guttenberg. His high-pitched voice and comedic rhythm made his character a highlight in the film.

“Police Academy” was a huge success, five sequels appeared in the next five years, with Marion appearing in all of them.

She also appeared on the 1978 Broadway hit show “Eubie!”

Marion, who was born in Philadelphia, began her career on stage just four years earlier, performing in productions of “Hello, Dolly!” The artist later starred alongside acting legend Bette Davis in the musical “Miss Moffat” – which became a major failure.

Around that time, Marion transitioned from stage to screen and got a special role in an episode of “The Jefferson’s” in 1976.
