Police Academy star and Broadway star Marion Ramsey dies at 73

“Marion carried a generous and penetrating light that instantly filled a room after her arrival. The darkening of her light is already felt by those who knew her well. We will miss her and will always love her,” said the statement.

Born in Philadelphia, Ramsey’s entertainment career began on stage. She co-starred in Broadway shows, including “Eubie!” and “Grind”, and traveled the country in the musical “Hello Dolly”.

Ramsey began his television career as a guest role on the hit series “The Jeffersons”, and was a regular on “Cos”, Bill Cosby’s sketch comedy series.

Marion Ramsey starred in six of "Police Academy" movies.

His most well-known role was in the 1984 film “Police Academy” as Officer Hooks, whose soft speech was punctuated by memorable explosions. Ramsey starred in five additional “Police Academy” films in the 1980s.

She started dubbing on the cartoon series “The Addams Family” in the early 1990s, which aired for two seasons.

Ramsey was deeply committed to AIDS awareness and lent his voice to charitable causes, performing at “Divas Simply Singing”, an annual fundraising event.

Later in her TV and film career, she had appearances on the Adult Swim programs “Robot Chicken” and “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!”

In 2015, she met with Policy Academy stars Steve Guttenberg and Michael Winslow in the Syfy camp film “Lavalantula” and its sequel “2 Lava 2 Lantula!” The following year. Her last acting role was in the 2018 independent film “When I Sing”.

She leaves her three brothers.
