Police: 1 dead, 2 shot to death at Boise State University

Police in Boise, Idaho, said they are holding two suspects in a fatal shooting that took place near a student housing complex at Boise State University

BOISE, Idaho – Two suspects were arrested in a fatal shootout on the campus of Boise State University, police said on Tuesday.

The officers responded to a call about shots fired at around 11:30 am on Monday, the Boise police tweeted. They found a man lying on the street with gunshot wounds, who was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries, a police statement said.

A white passenger car was seen fleeing the area after the shooting and shortly afterwards, police tried to stop a similar car about 2 miles away from the shooting site, the statement said.

A man ran out of the car, but was arrested a few blocks away, the statement said. Police said another suspect in the area was also taken into custody after police chased him on foot.

The identities of the victim and the suspect were not immediately released. The police also did not disclose details of how the shooting unfolded.

The media reported that the university’s BroncoAlert messaging system warned the campus community that a shooting had occurred in the vicinity of Jade Hall, which has student accommodation.

A second alert asked people to take shelter there. A clear message was sent on Tuesday, less than an hour later.

The Boise State University campus is in an urban setting close to downtown Boise, surrounded by neighborhoods and local businesses.

Mike Sharp, a college spokesman, did not immediately respond to emails, social media and phone messages asking for comment.
