Pokémon Go seems to be preparing for some kind of subscription service. Earlier this week, Pokémon Go released a new update this week, and dataminers have already proved some intriguing information from the game’s code. One of the biggest surprises is that Pokémon Go seems to be working on some kind of subscription service. Details on the alleged subscription service are scarce, but the subscription will be purchased in Pokémon Gois in the app and can be configured for automatic renewal.
What if Pokémon Go is getting ready to set up a subscription service of some kind, it should come as no surprise to some fans. Over the past year, Pokémon Go The number of “paid events” offering players exclusive searches and in-game benefits has significantly increased. In addition to last year’s worldwide Pokémon Go Fest, Pokémon Go is hosting a Pokémon Go Tour: event with tickets to Kanto in February. Players who have purchased a ticket for the Pokémon Go Tour: Kanto will also have access to the Special Survey with January and February tickets for that month’s Community Day. Recently, Pokémon Go also tested a new type of ticket event that required players to purchase a ticket to get a Galarian Mr. Mime in December. This was the first event that required players to pay to gain access to a specific Pokémon.
While some fans may be upset about the idea of a subscription service, other “free” games have used subscription services to great effect. Fifteen days, arguably the biggest game in the world, uses a Season Pass to offer players a variety of premium items and extra perks. Many other games also use subscription services to increase their revenue and reward players for their loyalty. Keep in mind that most game subscription services are optional and we do not expect Pokémon Go to move away from your current “free to play” model.
Meanwhile, Pokémon Go players can currently participate in a Sinnoh Celebration event this week and a Hoenn Celebration event next week, both featuring increased spawn for certain Pokémon. Pokémon Go is also hosting a Community Day with Machop this weekend.
