Pokémon Go Johto Celebration event guide: field research and rewards

Pokémon Go is having an event in the Johto region from January 26th through January 31st, increasing the spawn rate for Pokémon in that region.

During the event period, Pokémon from the Johto region such as Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Hoppip, Miltank and others will appear more frequently. Miltank will also be available Shiny for the first time.

Pokémon babies from Johto, such as Pichu, Cleffa and Tyrogue, will also hatch from the five-kilometer eggs obtained during the event.

Notably, the evolution of some Pokémon will teach him the rare Community Day movement of the past Community Days. Meganium will learn Frenzy Plant, Typhlosion will learn Blast Burn, Ampharos will learn Dragon Pulse and Tyranitar will learn Smack Down. These moves are powerful and worth collecting if you don’t already have them.

Entei will also return to the raids as the five star boss.

As with previous events, this one has many tasks and challenges to complete, including field research, timed research and a collection challenge.

Johto Celebration Timed Research

Step 1 of 2

  • Catch 15 dark type Pokémon (5 large balls)
  • Get 15 Pokémon Shadow (5 Revives)
  • Defeat a Go Rocket team leader (encounter with Larvitar)

Reward: 15 Poké Balls, 1 Incense, 5,000 XP

Step 2 of 2

  • Defeat Go Rocket Arlo team leader (2 Max Revives)
  • Defeat the Go Rocket Leader Cliff (3 Hyper Potions) team
  • Defeat the Go Rocket Leader Sierra team (2 maximum potions)
  • Reward: Ho-oh encounter

Collecting all the Pokémon below during the event will yield rewards.
