Pokémon GO announces Mega Raids for March 2021

The season of legends begins in just a few days in Pokémon GO, and Niantic began to outline some of its characteristics. Let’s dive into the details about the Mega Raid spins that will come in March, including a new Pokémon Mega Evolved and two new Mega-centered Bonus Hours that are being tested for the first time.

Niantic announced the official March 2021 Mega Raid milestone on the official website Pokémon GO blog:

Mega Blastoise, Mega Pidgeot and Mega Ampharos will be presented in Mega Raids from Monday, March 1, 2021, at 8:00 am until Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at 10:00 am, local time.

So basically, we lost Charizard and Venusaur and got Mega Pidgeot and Ampharos back. Niantic is switching between available Megas at a much faster rate than recently, which seems to generate more interest than his previous way of keeping these Pokémon in attack for long periods of time.

Mega Houndoom, Mega Abomasnow and a surprise Mega-Evolved Pokémon will appear in Mega Raids starting on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at 10:00 local time.

It is interesting to note that this new surprise Pokémon will be presented to the raids on the day that the electric “Charge Up” event starts in Pokémon GO. There is no way of saying if this Mega addition will be related, but, assuming it is, there are only two Mega Pokémon with electric typing: Ampharos, which has already been released, and Manectric. Stay tuned for confirmation, but my current theory is that Manectric will enter the Mega Raid cycle this day.

Also, stay tuned for dedicated and updated Raid Guides for all three.

Thursday, March 11, 2021: Mega Bonus Hour: Candy – You will earn more Candy by capturing Pokémon that share a type with your active Mega Evolution Pokémon.

Thursday, March 18, 2021: Mega Raid Hour – Mega Raids will happen more often.

This is the first time that we will see any kind of Mega-centric time in the game, so that’s a good thing. Just theorizing here, I believe that these will eventually be combined. Remember, the original Spotlight Hour tests had Tuesday generating the Pokémon Spotlight and Thursday offering a Spotlight bonus. This is very similar.
