In 2016, millions of players ventured out of the home to capture their ‘favorite mon in the real world with the debut of Pokémon Go. Four years later, the successful mobile title is still a cultural phenomenon.
However, fans were annoyed when a viral police post in Essex, UK, seemed to make fun of adults leaving home to play.

On January 10, the Essex police social media account warned Pokémon Go players to leave to play the Niantic game. Fans of the series were upset when the account chose fans based on their age.
“During patrolling, [we have had to] I spoke to several different men, over 30 in the past week, who seemed to find it acceptable to go to certain public places within the district to hunt for Pokémon! Yes, you read that correctly, ”said the post.

The police alert started a debate among Go players, who felt that the age of the players was decreasing. One user wrote: “There was no need to highlight a group like this. Rag on Pokémon Go if that’s your problem, but it makes no difference if they were teenagers, or even middle-aged women !! “
Fans also felt that the game was being highlighted, as many pointed out that they use Go to exercise. “Has anyone told the police that Pokémon Go is an application designed to encourage Pokémon fans to go out and exercise?” said a coach. Another replied, “Someone playing alone while walking, I’m not sure what the problem is or why it’s different from someone walking and texting.”
