Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro includes internal ND and optional EVF

Blackmagic today presented a new Pocket Cinema 6K Pro that includes features that everyone wants in a small compact body. The two great new features are internal neutral density and an optional EVF.

The new Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro now uses batteries of the Sony NP-F570 type that perform much better than the original Pocket which uses Canon LP-E6 batteries. The lens mount is still EF and uses the same type of CFast media.
All Pocket Cinema camera models include a full version of DaVinci Resolve Studio.

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema cameras feature a mini XLR input with 48 volts of phantom power to connect professional microphones. The 6K Pro model has 2 mini XLR connections, to record 2 separate audio tracks using 2 microphones, without an external mixer. The four built-in microphones have an extremely low noise level and are resistant to shocks and wind. There is also a 3.5 mm audio jack for connecting video camera microphones, along with a built-in speaker for playback and a 3.5 mm headset similar to other current Pocket cameras.

Below is the entire presentation, if you want to see it.

Featuring the same 5th generation color science as the URSA Mini Pro 12K, the new Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro offers accurate skin tones and faithful colors. With a new 12-bit dynamic gamma curve designed to capture more color data in highlights and shadows, for better looking images. Color science also deals with some of the complex Blackmagic RAW imaging processes, so that the sensor’s color and dynamic range data is preserved through metadata that customers can use in post-production.

Internal ND filters

Internal ND filters

The inclusion of internal ND is a major problem. It has 2, 4 and 6 point IR ND filters.
IR filters are designed to uniformly filter optical and IR wavelengths, eliminating IR contamination from images. The activation buttons are located on the back of the camera body, within reach of your thumb from the multifunctional handle. The user-selectable filter settings can be displayed as an ND number, stop reduction or fraction on the LCD.

Cinema Camera Pro EVF

Screenshot 2021 02 17 at 11 01 27 AM

It’s hard to choose which new feature is my favorite, but I think adding an optional EVF should be my primary choice.

The new EVF Pro is a 1280 x 960 color OLED and an extra 33% of the screen is dedicated to critical information such as frame rate, histogram, recording status, audio meters and more.

Screenshot 2021 02 17 at 11:00 37 AM

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Pro EVF has a range of motion of 70 degrees and 4 different types of eyepieces, with options for left or right eyes. The integrated proximity sensor not only activates the display, but also turns off the LCD touch screen. This conserves battery power and prevents you from accidentally changing the camera’s setting by pressing the touch screen controls.

Likewise, the new Pocket has a Pro Grip battery that also uses two NP batteries, giving the camera a good runtime. The Camera Battery Grip pro retails for $ 145.

The new Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro fulfills many requirements that the original models did not meet and seems to be an excellent option for all recording conditions. A feature that has not been updated is enhanced autofocus or internal IS, such as IBIS.

The new Blackmagic Generation 5 Color Science will be available for all Pocket cameras in a future update. This is great news if you want to add 6K Pro to your existing Pocket cameras for working with Multicam.

The Pocket 6K Pro sells for $ 2,495, which is about $ 400 more than the Pocket 6K and I think it is worth every penny. The EVF costs $ 495 and includes four eyepieces.
