PlayStation VR 2: New controllers unveiled

Sony took a first look at the new controllers for PlayStation VR 2, which combine finger tracking with the PS5’s tactile feedback and adaptive triggers to provide “a much deeper sense of presence and a stronger sense of immersion in VR experiences. . ” On the PlayStation Blog, the new controllers replace the old PlayStation Move wand design with a more ergonomic set of peripherals that fit in the user’s hands. The new controllers are shaped like an “orb” and allow a more natural adjustment, without restricting the player’s fingers.

As for the new features available, peripherals will embrace many of the PS5 DualSense’s best features, including Adaptive Triggers and Haptic Feedback to increase immersion and add voltage to the inputs.

Finger touch detection will also be implemented, similarly to Valve’s Knuckle controllers. Essentially, the controller will be able to detect your fingers without the need to press buttons. Sony says that this will allow for “more natural gestures” during the game.

Controllers will also feature a tracking ring at their base and will be tracked by the PlayStation VR 2 headset instead of the PlayStation camera. Each side has an analog stick, a cufflink, a trigger button and two button inputs. The left controller also has a Create button, while the right controller will have the Options button.Sony says the prototypes for these new controllers “will be in the hands of the development community soon”, adding that “there is still a lot to share about the next generation of VR on PS5”.

The PlayStation VR 2 was confirmed in February of this year, when we learned that the new headset will connect to the PS5 via a single wire and will present a better resolution and field of view. Sony also said it would not be launched this year.
