PlayStation “officially retired” the franchise website for its first shooter, Killzone.
Although neither developer Guerrilla nor Sony publicly commented on the change, the statement said the decision “does not affect online multiplayer modes, player statistics or rating data”, but confirmed that it is now “no longer possible” to create or manage Killzone Shadow Falling clans.
“The official Killzone franchise website has retired,” a declaration now says when you visit Killzone.com now (thanks, VGC). “From now on, Killzone.com visitors will be directed to PlayStation.com.
“Although this change does not affect online multiplayer modes, player statistics or ranking data for Killzone Mercenary and Killzone Shadow Fall, it is now no longer possible to create or manage clans in Killzone Shadow Fall. We apologize for this inconvenience.
“Thanks to the many Killzone.com fans and visitors over the years for their enthusiasm and support.”
The statement is simply signed by “Guerrilla”, the studio behind the sniper franchise.
In a way, it is not surprising; it’s been seven years since we last saw a portion of the shooting series, the most recent of which was a launch title for the PlayStation 4 … and the launch of the PS5 they came and went with no sign of the series in the PS5 launch game line up.
But while Guerrilla has released four installments of the shooter in the best part of a decade, it may imply that there are currently no plans to resurrect the franchise yet, particularly as the studio is currently concerned with the fan favorite Horizon Zero Dawn Series.
Maybe one day we’ll see Killzone on a list of upcoming PS5 games, but for now, you’ll just have to insist that we’re coming.
