PlayStation Network Down on PS4 and PS5 [UPDATE]

ORIGINAL: PlayStation Network, also known as PSN, is down on PS4 and PS5. At the time of this writing, the servers went down minutes ago, and now all PlayStation platforms are being affected, as well as all other related services, such as PlayStation Plus. The news was first shared by the official Fifteen days Twitter account status after players started reporting in droves that they were unable to access the free-to-play Battle Royale game on PlayStation platforms. Since then, the official PlayStation Status website has confirmed that all aspects of PSN, except PlayStation Video, are down or in trouble.

At the time of publication, it is not clear which regions are being affected. Furthermore, it is unclear how long PlayStation players should expect services to be inactive. That said, while services are down, PlayStation players will be limited to offline and single player games.

Not only is it unclear how widespread the outage is and when a solution will be launched, it is also unclear what is causing the problem in the first place. Typically, when PSN and other similar services, such as Xbox Live Gold, go down, it is due to server overhead, which means that servers often experience problems on weekends when everyone is playing.

At the time of publication, details of the interruption are scarce. That said, we will be sure to update the story as new official details arrive. Normally, Sony is very quick to fix outages like this, but there have been cases where the PSN went down and stayed off for hours. In other words, be prepared to wait until possibly tomorrow to access PlayStation Network.
