Players rejected the league’s proposal to postpone the season – The Athletic

Spring training will begin on time, as will the regular season, unless COVID-19 determines otherwise. This is what the players want, and the rest is noise, actually. If a deal to delay the season was to happen, it had to happen long before the beginning of February, when the spring training camps were about to open. And now that Major League Baseball and the Players Association have been eliminated again, they must deal with the consequences of their inaction.

Both parties hate the “both sides” argument, believing that their side is the only one that is right and that the other side is unreasonable. Unfortunately, neither the players nor the owners can claim pure motives. The tortured and bitter relationship between the parties prevents a common sense discussion from taking place. But if the positive tests for COVID-19 start to accumulate in Florida and Arizona, if the camps are closed and the season becomes a mess, remember that everything was so preventable, so unnecessary.
