According to a report by Bloomberg, Microsoft is in talks to acquire Discord, the popular gaming-oriented communication software.
The report highlights that the discussions are at an early stage and that, at the moment, nothing is certain. Apparently, Discord also spoke with Amazon and Epic Games and, in addition, there is still the possibility of the company going public.
For those of us who remember software companies being bought by big guys, like Skype being bought by Microsoft, there is a lot of speculation about what that would mean for Discord’s future.
Microsoft is negotiating the purchase of Discord for more than $ 10 billion, according to Bloomberg. based on the history and state of the Mixer and Skype, I’m sure nothing can go wrong

Currently, Discord is loved by the gaming community. It addresses a need for easy communication and organization, with free voice chat, which was not always so easily accessible before Discord. The possibility that a big company would come and get their hands on everything would be very sad.
Imagine if Nintendo were buying Discord:
without curses
your alias is now a random 16-character alphanumeric string
every time a friend connects to your server, everyone on the server must disconnect for 30 seconds and wait for them
The switch is still unable to use voice chat https://t.co/1GNZApE3aQ– Nintendeal (@Nintendeal) March 23, 2021

Of course, it is not yet certain that Microsoft will acquire Discord. But if they do, we really should expect them to take into account what made it so popular in the first place, and don’t mess with the company’s infrastructure.

Microsoft has a history of acquiring and destroying this type of company. Hopefully Discord is not next on that list.
