The new loot shooter Outriders it hasn’t even been released yet and players are already working hard to find some of their rarest equipment in the game’s recent demo. According to the developers, it got so out of control that they need to fix it to make legendary weapons more difficult to cultivate, before players end up interrupting the progression of the game.

“While we don’t want to avoid farm racing (we understand!), The lootcave discovered through triple-breast racing, as well as running the store, does not seem to be in the spirit of the game,” said one Outriders developers of People Can Fly (manufacturer of Bulletstorm) wrote in the game’s subreddit. “To that end, we are redirecting farming efforts towards game mechanics that may be more enjoyable for players to play and repeat.”

Some of the specific changes that come in a patch for the demo scheduled to air later today are as follows:

  • Epic items will no longer appear in stores and vendors (within the demo).
  • The chests will no longer leave legendary items.
  • Side quest rewards (in repeated races) will now have a chance to drop legendary items.

The team emphasized, however, that the overall drop rates for enemies’ legendary weapons “are NOT being changed.”

Launched on February 25, it didn’t take long for players to get together on Outriders demo, becoming one of the top Steam downloads of the week. They have did a quick job to find ways to break the game’s loot system too, including discovering your own loot cave with a boss constantly reappearing, and one three chest race mission players could farm in mere minutes without having to fight anything.

Part of the reason why players did this is because Outriders is a genuinely fun cover-based shooter, but the other reason is because all the progress of the demo will be carried over to the finished game when it launches on April 1st. People love to have a good advantage, especially when Ithese are loot games.

In the past, when exploits were discovered in Destiny or Hymn (RIP), they have been corrected, in part to prolong game life and keeping people working. People Can Fly emphatically stated that Outriders it is not a live service game, however, although it continues to support you after the launch. We’ll see what that means in practice when it finally comes out.
