A few weeks ago, Nintendo announced the Super Mario Bros. 35 World Count Challenge, celebrating the revelation of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser Fury, asking players to … kill Bowser. To like, very.
If players from all over the world collectively defeated 3.5 million Bowsers by January 25, 11 pm Pacific Time, each participating player who won at least one Bowser will receive 350 Platinum Points as a reward. The game will cease to exist on March 31, of course, so what better way to celebrate your last days than to ruthlessly dump Bowser into a lava tank over and over again? It is what he would have wanted.
The event started on January 19th, so it took players 6 days to reach 1,498,560 Bowsers. By the way, this is not actually halfway – about 42% of the way. The remaining 2 million dead Bowsers need to be reached within the next 13 hours. Unlikely? Well, we’ve seen devastating last-minute victories before, haven’t we?
[update: the figure in the tweet was actually achieved on the 20th January, so the 3.5 million Bowser goal is probably well within reach. That’s much better news!]
What do you think people? Will we get a victory in the final hours or will that 350 Platinum Points reward be out of reach?
