Player ratings: AC Milan 0-3 Inter

Milan failed to regain first place as Inter scored three goals at San Siro earlier in the afternoon. The game ended 3-0 and the Rossoneri will certainly be disappointed. Below are the player ratings.

Initial XI

Donnarumma (5): He made some good saves on two low shots from Lukaku and Perisic, but in the end he could have done better for the third goal by being hit on his next post.

Calabria (6): The two defenders had a lot of problems with Inter overloading the flanks and forcing more space on the opposite sides, which allowed them to switch to 1×1 against the defender. Calabria handled his flank decently well, given this difficult task.

Kjaer (4): He lost Lautaro to the opening goal and generally looked unstable throughout the game, not being the defender’s best performance.

Romagnoli (3): He had the unenviable task of scoring Lukaku and was simply not up to the challenge. Time after time, Lukaku received the ball with his back to Alessio and practically isolated him by having time to choose passes for the runners, as shown in the second goal. It is an incredibly difficult task to stop, but knowing that it was coming he had to do better against that consistent style of holdup.

Hernandez (5): Once again, the defender was suffocated by space on the left and when he fails to get ahead, his crossing leaves much to be desired. He had the chance to tie at the end of the first half, but ended up scraping.

Tonali (5): Almost always anonymous during the game, but had a powerful shot saved by stellar Handanovic, and also failed to knock Hakimi in preparation for Inter’s second, when it became clear that Hakimi would have a 4v2 clash.

Kessie (5): It’s not the Ivorian’s best game, but it’s not entirely your fault either. The instructions were clear for him to press hard, which gave Lukaku many 1x1s against our defense.

Saelemaekers (4.5): While offering nothing on either side, his usual role provides a significant amount of coverage for Calabria, but that was considered insufficient for much of this game.

Calhanoglu (5): Far from what we expect from the team’s best creative output, consistently lazy with its passes and frustratingly indecisive with its final ball, especially a first-half chance that should have sent Rebic into the goal, but resulted in a shot on goal.

Rebic (4): It was not his type of game, since with Theo there was no space on the left that would severely limit his pace and without him he was basically a lame duck throughout the game.

Ibrahimovic (5): He forced two great saves from Handanovic just in the interval, but in the end he had to do better to make them nearly impossible to defend for the goalkeeper.
