Playboi Carti Drops from Whole Lotta Red album: Listen

This is not an exercise. Playboi Carti finally released his long-awaited second album, Whole Lotta Red.

On Friday (December 25), Playboi Carti released his new LP, which arrives two years after the delivery of his 2018 debut album, Die Lit. The 24-track project includes songs titled “Stop Breathing”, “Slay3r” and “Vamp Anthem” and the previously released single “@ Meh”. Special guest appearances include Future, Kid Cudi and Kanye West.

Whole Lotta Red has been a coveted hip-hop project for almost two years. The rapper started teasing the album in 2018 and, a year later, the release date has become a waiting game since the LP’s existence. In July 2019, Playboi Carti announced that it would release the album two months after making the public statement during a performance in Milwaukee, Wis.

“I’m trying to get out of this shit for the next 60 days,” said Carti at the time, speaking on WLR. He continued, “I’m not going to lie. It looks like we’re working hard at the moment. So, I’m going to do this shit without resources.” Then nothing.

In 2020, fans eagerly awaited its release. Carti hinted that a new song would come on April 14 this year, when he uploaded new art to his Instagram page. However, the post did not include any additional details. On April 16, Carti released the new single, “@ Meh”, after announcing the album on social media. “@ meh! now!”, Carti tweeted about the track produced by Neeko Baby, Deskhop and Jetsonmade.

In September, Iggy Azalea, mother of Carti’s son, Onyx, refused to give fans an official release date for WLR but he promised that the album would be something worth waiting for.

“I will never tell you when Whole Lotta Red it’s falling, people. Nice try, “explained Iggy.” I can tell you Whole Lotta Red it’s amazing and it’s the next level and it’s so much better than anything that anybody else i’ve heard of, really. “

Two years of teasing this album started taking rap fans the wrong way. Whenever Carti posts on social media, her supporters think WLR is on its way, but then nothing falls and they download their frustrations on Twitter and in the comments section of many Instagram accounts.

On December 6, rising rapper from Atlanta, Mario Judah, decided to take the matter to his own fans and demand that Carti abandon the album. In a video posted on Twitter, Judah threatened to leak songs from Whole Lotta Red one at a time if Carti failed to deliver the album. Judah’s ultimatum came after Carti returned to social media and apparently hinted that the album would arrive after all.

“don’t fuck with that, carti … you have until 6pm ⚠️⚠️ @ playboicarti”, tweeted Judah.

A few hours later that day, Judah released “Bih Yah”, a song he wrote, recorded, produced, mixed and built on his own that sounds remarkably like Carti’s tone and delivery.

Unfortunately, Judah’s threats fell on deaf ears because once again fans were tricked into thinking that Carti would stop playing with her emotions and release her highly anticipated album.

On the afternoon of December 10, the Atlanta rapper posted an image of himself on Instagram with the caption: “i kAnT bELieVE my ALBUm is ABOUT 2 dRoP. WTF ps. I GoT A TANK @ THe cAsTLE now thx. YE.”

Judah later celebrated on social media after Carti’s announcement. “So, after warning … after warning … playboi carti is finally going to drop WLR we did it, boys”, he tweeted. However, the date still came and went again without an album.

Finally, on Tuesday (12/22), Carti officially announced the LP’s release date as Christmas and revealed the cover art. He also launched a controversial product line to match the album’s release.

Without further ado, Whole Lotta Red is finally here.
