The Snapdragon 765 is a very good chip, combining a selection of high-end features from Qualcomm’s 800 series with a lower price that puts it at the highest end of the mid-range category. According to an alleged leak in Telegram, the next update for this class will be significant. The biggest change to the Snapdragon 775 is a shift to the smallest and most efficient 5-nanometer manufacturing process, as seen in the 888.

The leak of the Telegram “XiaomiUI” (not officially affiliated with Xiaomi) indicates that, like the 765, the 775 system-on-a-chip would come in standard and 5G variants. The CPU design would jump from the Kryo 475 to a new design, labeled “Kryo 6xx” in the document, with a similar Adreno 6xx placeholder model for the GPU. The RAM would be available in LPDDR5 3200mHz, a big increase, or LPDDR5 2400mHz, which is still a modest gain. The camera’s signal processor jumps from the Spectra 355 to the 570, with a maximum capacity of 28 megapixel triple sensors operating at the same time. The screen supports 4K at 60 frames per second or 1080p at 120fps more commonly.

Hardware comparison between the SM7250 (Snapdragon 765) and the SM7350 (Snapdragon 775), updates in bold.

Such unconfirmed hardware would make the 5 nm Snapdragon 775 almost as powerful as the 7 nm 870 and potentially better in some areas, such as memory speed and performance of multiple cameras. It wouldn’t be able to go toe-to-toe with the 888, but it wouldn’t be necessary – it would be used on much cheaper devices. Considering that crucial details like the CPU and GPU model are missing, and assuming it is a genuine leak, it may take a while for the SoC to appear on the devices.
