Pixar is responsible for some of the greatest animated films of our time …and then some of them were selected for franchises. For a while, it seemed that the studio was more concerned with repeating past successes than creating new ones. But it looks like the latest The head of the studio is ready to start working, even if the existence of ongoing sequences is inevitable.
Pixar’s Pete Docter, who directed films like Monsters Inc. and Inside outrecently sat with the Hollywood reporter for a long talk about your management as a content director. The veteran animator took office in June 2018, after John Lasseter left amid allegations of sexual misconduct. Since then, Docter has seen the launch of what appears to be his final move as co-director, Soul, as well as several new projects such as Luca, Going Red, it is a Toys Story almost prequel about the true Buzz Lightyear. The latter raised red flags, which we could see a repeat of the Disney Pixar sequel era – one that saw more than half of its releases between 2010 and 2020 dominated by prequels and sequences like Looking for Dory and monster’s University.
Docter noted that the next three films, including Light-year, were approved before taking office. In addition, he acknowledged that Pixar was a little excited about the sequences for a whileand promised that his next series of films with the green light (which have not yet been announced) will prioritize original stories and new and diverse voices behind the scenes.
Çrudely, he also noted that this does not mean that Pixar’s sequels will end. After all, they make a lot of money and provide stability even a studio as large as Pixar needs to experience new stories and worlds. “In the past, we had a large series of sequences, many in sequence,” he said. “We now have a lot of original material, which I am personally excited about. But for financial security, we should probably have a few more sequences there. Sometimes it’s difficult because creative projects have a life of their own, and they either take off or not ”.

One of the places where we’ll continue to see sequences and spinoffs is at Disney +, as Pixar is busy working on a secondary television shows for Monsters Inc., Car, and Above. The company is also making original projects for the streaming platform, including a long-format animation program called Win or lose, about an elementary school softball team, as well as a collection of miniburts called Pixar Popcorn, which comes out this month. In fact, Docter said that Pixar is producing “both for streaming and for movies.”
