Pittsburgh Steelers’ Diontae Johnson prepares for a 39-yard tank destroyer capture against Indianapolis Colts

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers score at the end of the third quarter will fall on the stats sheet as a 39-yard touchdown, but Ben Roethlisberger’s ball to Diontae Johnson traveled about 50 yards in the air to pull them within two scores of the Indianapolis Colts.

It was a drastic departure from the short passes and failures that marked the first half of Sunday afternoon’s game against the Colts.

For most of the game, Roethlisberger looked like the defender who shot for only 19 yards in the first half in Monday’s loss to Bengals. But losing 24-7 with just over three minutes left in the third quarter, Roethlisberger launched his deepest move of the game and hit Johnson in the end zone on the first move of his ninth move.

On the verge of being eliminated in their last home game of the regular season, the Steelers desperately needed the touchdown – especially after the previous race ended with a failed fourth-pass pass on the goal line. Despite a Colts penalty that placed the ball on the 1-yard line, the Steelers failed to hit it.
