Pitcher’s notes: Dodgers, Gray, E-Rod, Yankees, Fiers

O Dodgers are still deciding between the fifth match options, manager Dave Roberts informed Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times and other reporters on Friday. Left-handed David Price is competing against righties Dustin May and Tony Gonsolin, who impressed as newbies during the Dodgers’ winning campaign at the 2020 World Series. As a five-time All-Star and former AL Cy Young winner, Price certainly carries the best record of the three – not to mention the highest salary – but he did not release anything last season after opting for COVID-19 concerns. Any of these three would join Trevor Bauer, Walker Buehler, Clayton Kershaw and Julio Urías in what will be a season opener loaded five.

The latest news about a few more pitchers in the game:

  • Reds well Sonny Gray, who has been dealing with a back problem for a few weeks, emerged unscathed from a game every Friday, according to MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon. After throwing two entries and 30 shots, Gray said: “I felt good. It was definitely a step in the right direction.Gray will start the season on the injured list, but does not expect to waste much time. This is encouraging news for a Reds first team that lost the aforementioned Bauer during the off-season.
  • Eduardo rodriguez he was recently hit by a dead arm, but he seemed to be making some progress this morning. O Red Sox the southpaw came out of a bullpen session feeling good about his chances of returning to the game soon, although a restriction on the injured list at the start of the season remains a possibility (via Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com and Boston Globe Pete Abraham) Coach Alex Cora said the club will assess how Rodríguez feels tomorrow before making any decision on his recovery schedule.
  • O Yankees opted for right-handed Deivi Garcia for Triple-A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre, according to a team announcement. The movement suggests Domingo Germán will enter the season as the 5th in the Yankees’ rotation, behind Gerrit Cole, Corey Kluber, Jameson Taillon and Jordan Montgomery, although chances are that García will play his part in the matches this season. The 21-year-old, a former candidate for the top 100, made his debut last season with a 4.98 ERA / 4.21 SIERA with a strikeout rate of 22.6 percent against a petty hike rate of 4 , 1 percent in 34 1/3 innings.
  • Athletics well Mike Fiers will start the season on the injured list, coach Bob Melvin announced Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle and other reporters. Fiers has been dealing with inflammation of his left hip since the middle of the month and has not faced live hitting during his recovery. Your injury can open the door to any of the Daulton Jefferies, Cole Irvin or AJ Puk to join at least temporarily the rotation of A’s. Fiers tied for A’s lead in matches (11) and finished second in innings (59) last season, but he fought for 4.58 ERA / 5.41 SIERA and got a worse personal rate of 14.4 percent K .
