The University of Arkansas is one of the best schools for the tight end Tyrus Washington, thanks to its relationship with coach Cody Kennedy.
Kennedy is quick to send a direct message to Washington after posting to Twitter.
“Our relationship is going well,” said Washington. “I like him. He really knows if I post something on Twitter. He’s always the first to comment. He’s always talking to me. Talking to me about things. He’s there for me.”
Washington, 6-4, 230 pounds, from Leesburg (Georgia) Lee County has more than 20 scholarship offers from schools like Arkansas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Nebraska, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Vanderbilt, state from Kansas and others.
He recently took a virtual tour of the Arkansas team, which he called “great”.
“I love the campus. I look forward to seeing it in person,” said Washington. “The stadium was very beautiful.”
Pigs are at the top of Washington’s list.
“Top of the chain,” he said. “Not number 1. I don’t have number 1, but they are up there. They are the best.”
He mentioned other schools on his list.
“Probably South Carolina, the USF and Cincinnati,” said Washington.
The Razorbacks are also heavily chasing two Washington teammates, linebacker Jaron Willis and striker Qaeshon Sapp. This increases Washington’s interest in the Pigs.
“My friends Qaeshon Sapp and Jaron are also thinking of going there, so it would be nice to have friends who go with you,” said Washington. “They are like brothers to me, so it would be nice to have them with me too.”
He and Willis, who is his second cousin, argued about attending the same school.
“We’ve talked about this before,” said Washington. “It is not important to go to a school where I know someone. It is my life, but it will be nice to meet someone.”
Washington had 15 receptions and 4 touchdowns, while having 15 knockdown blocks as a junior.
Veteran national recruiting analyst Tom Lemming of the CBS Sports Network recently visited Washington, Sapp, Willis and Quavian Carter at school.
“This kid really impressed me,” said Lemming of Washington. “He is a candidate for more than 4 stars with a potential of 5 stars. He can run, super strong, big hands and can even play wide receiver for someone his size. Impressive looking top athlete with fast twitch ability.
When Washington is not focused on football, he loves to fish for bass and crappie. He and Kennedy talked about fishing.
“He talked about some ponds he used to go to,” said Washington. “He said he fished a little. If I go there, we will put him back on fishing.”
Washington has an average of 3.6 points and is considering graduating in criminal justice to become an FBI agent or police officer. He is also thinking about studying in the medical field and becoming a physical therapist.
Washington, which was the first team in the entire region by 1-6A in Georgia, is looking to announce its college decision early in its senior season.
“I hope that before the start of the season, if not two games,” he said.
