Yes, as they usually do, soap operas worked overtime in 2020 to outperform their nighttime counterparts, displaying more “zombies” than you would see in The walking dead and set more connections in motion than going down any three seasons of The bachelor. A soap even unpacked the genre first living doll first living doll since Passions‘Timmy. So you can understand how what should be a top 10 list quickly expanded to one of the top 20.

So you will not find, say, Young people and the restless‘four-year renewal by CBS, Days of our lives‘Melissa Reeves’ temporary reformulation as Jennifer in the wake of her anti-Black Lives Matter controversy, or ABC’s plans to develop a prime-time branch of All my children. We are dealing with on the screen in progress (even though, as with our entry # 1, its genesis was off-screen).
