PHOTOGRAPHED: Empty COVID Vaccination Centers as New York Health Care Professionals Say ‘We Spoiled’

Vaccination centers in New York City were empty last weekend, as a local health official said: ‘We have lost our chance to vaccinate thousands’.

The photos show that both Lincoln High School on Coney Island and George Westinghouse Vocational High School in Brooklyn were ghost towns last Saturday.

An official in the Health Department at Hillcrest High School in Queens told The New York Post: ‘You can’t imagine how much it was. We could have used that day to vaccinate thousands of people and we just blew it.

The data shows that just over 22,000 doses were administered this Saturday in NYC; as of Friday, that number was over 36,000. Vaccine trackers show that 18,866 vaccinations were given on January 30 – compared with 39,964 the previous day.

A Department of Health spokesman told DailyMail.com: ‘Our distribution capacity is much greater than our vaccine supply. The limited stock we had ran out over the weekend. DOHMH locations were open that day to accommodate a limited number of rescheduled appointments from the previous week.

‘Each dose was used over the weekend.’

The daily number of vaccinated people far exceeds the number of infected, reports CNN. A total of 102,420 people tested positive for the virus on Friday; the US averages more than 1.3 million vaccinations a day.

More than 26 million have been infected with the virus; 462,272 died.

The Centers for Disease Control announced on Saturday that 8,317,180 Americans have already received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, reaching 2.5 percent of the population.

At least one dose of the vaccine was administered to 30,250,964 million people, equivalent to 9.1 percent of the population.

Councilman Mark Treyger tweeted a video from the Lincoln High School center in Coney Island, writing: 'Most employees and almost nobody getting vaccinated'

'Irony is that the city website says there are no nominations available for my constituents today, but no one is there and they are waiting for vaccines to be provided. This is unacceptable @nycHealthy! 'he added

Councilman Mark Treyger tweeted a video from the Lincoln High School center in Coney Island, writing: ‘Most employees and hardly anyone being vaccinated. Irony is that the city website says there are no nominations available for my voters today, but no one is there and they are waiting for vaccines to be provided. This is unacceptable @nycHealthy! ‘

“Irony is that the city’s website says there are no nominations available for my constituents today, but no one is there and they are waiting for vaccines to be delivered. This is unacceptable @nycHealthy! ‘

Councilor Brad Lander shared his own footage of a hub the same day, writing: ‘I heard from one constituent that the same thing happened today at George Westinghouse HS in downtown Bklyn: many employees eager to help with vaccination, but no appointments and no one entering .

‘@NYChealthy what’s going on? We can’t sit in the stock, we need as many shots as possible as quickly as possible.

Yankee Stadium finally opened as a COVID-19 mass vaccination site on Friday, but many of the coveted locations for consultations remain unclaimed by Bronx residents.

At a news conference on Friday with Governor Cuomo, Yankees President Randy Levine said he would distribute ‘trinkets and gifts to people to help encourage them’.

The Bronx has, by far, the worst COVID positivity rates anywhere in New York City, but has the least interest in the vaccine.

After Treyger’s tweet, visits were at that center. He said: ‘It looked like they were planning to just let the day go by without anyone being vaccinated with the vaccine doses in the fridge, which is unacceptable.’

A Health Department spokesman said the city’s 15 vaccination centers were open last weekend “to accommodate a limited number of rescheduled appointments from the previous week”.

Authorities say all doses were used by the end of the weekend. They added: ‘The doses were scarce and there were also consultations the next day.’

The employee who worked at Hillcrest High School on January 30 said he was one of 70 workers; only 10 people received the jab, he said.

Despite this, the unidentified worker said that requests for authorization for those without an appointment were denied.

The hubs had already been forced to close from 21 to 24 January due to supply problems. Last week’s snowstorm also meant closings on Monday and Tuesday.

Lawmakers criticized the city for its ‘poor reach’, especially among the large number of black and Latino residents of the Bronx, many of whom are cautious and reluctant to receive the injection.

New York City councilor Mark Levine, who represents District 7 in New York City (northern Manhattan), shared a screenshot of the various times available on Twitter.

‘There are still … vaccine applications available at Yankee Stadium next week. They are not disappearing quickly, ‘he I wrote On thursday.

‘This is good news – but also bad news. It means that New York is not making enough publicity to the people there. The city must have teams across the [Bronx] registering people. ‘

Levine regretted that there were not enough prospecting teams in the neighborhood to register residents.

‘Everyone, please help spread the word. We don’t want one [appointment] slot to be left unused! he tweeted.
