But while the romantic tale between Daphne and Simon Bass Duke of Hastings (Rege-Jean Page) captured the heart of the nation, Phoebe Dynevor revealed that she had to skip some of the sex scenes during a family screening.

The 25-year-old actress revealed that she had the remote control firmly held in her hand, ready to advance the intimate moments while watching the series with her mother, Sally, 57.

Phoebe told The Daily Star: ‘She is very proud and excited. I watched the show with the whole family, even the grandparents managed to watch it.

‘I had to sit there and move quickly on high alert with the remote. We almost did it.

Bridgerton debuted on Christmas Day and has remained at the top of Netflix’s most-watched list for the past two weeks, proving to be a huge success.

And the show could probably go from overnight sensation to an eight-season season, according to the creator of Netflix’s hit.

Chris Van Dusen, the showrunner, said: ‘Being a family of eight children and eight books, I would love to be able to concentrate and really tell stories and love stories to all the Bridgerton brothers. For each character, for sure. I would love to. ‘

He explained that the first season was “mostly about Daphne and her love story with Simon”, but that there is much more to investigate.

The show is based on Bridgerton novels by Julia Quinn – the second called The Viscount Who Loved Me.

The second book follows Daphne Bridgerton’s older brother, Anthony, who is looking for a wife.

In addition, the story of Daphne and Simon Basset’s wedding would continue, as would Lady Portia Featherington’s developments after her husband’s death. The mystery of Lady Whistledown’s identity also continues.

Julia Quinn refers to her sequential books as ‘second epilogues’.
