The Indianapolis Colts needs help getting to the playoffs, regardless of defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars.
This means that their season could come to an end on Sunday, and veteran quarterback Philip Rivers acknowledged on Wednesday that it could be his last game:
Here are the Colts tiebreaker scenarios going into Week 17:
- Titans win / draw and defeat (wins AFC South)
- Victory and defeat / draw of the Titans (wins AFC South)
- Ravens win and lose / draw (wins wild card spot)
- Browns win and lose / draw (conquering wildcard vacancy)
- Loss / tie of victory and dolphins (conquer wildcard vacancy)
- Draw and loss of Ravens, Browns or Dolphins (conquer wildcard vacancy)
Rivers, 39, had a solid season for the Colts, throwing 4,005 yards, 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 68.3% of his passes.
He solidified the Colts’ quarterback position after they suffered a year of ups and downs with Jacoby Brissett last season, but they will eventually need to add a franchise player as a quarterback. (Perhaps a Frank Reich meeting with Carson Wentz made sense?)
Until then, the 10-5 Colts have a real chance of reaching the postseason if they get help. Rivers told reporters on Wednesday that he would watch the results arrive around the league before 4:25 pm ET starts on Sunday:
“My normal way when we play the 4 o’clock game, I kind of flip through the Sunday Ticket on my phone. So to say I’m not going to do that is a lie. I will not be consumed by this, but I will be aware. Trying to pretend that you won’t know the outcome of these games is probably unreal. But I don’t think it needs to consume our locker room. ”
All the Colts can do is take care of their business against the Jags, in a game that could be Rivers’ last.
