PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. (AP) – Prosecutors have accused a Wisconsin pharmacist accused of spoiling the COVID-19 vaccine with a misdemeanor for material damage.

Online court records indicate that Steven Brandenburg was charged Tuesday at the Ozaukee County Court. Police arrested Brandenburg on December 31 as part of an investigation of 57 damaged vials of the Modern vaccine at Advocate Aurora Health in Grafton, about 20 miles north of Milwaukee.

The investigators believe that Brandenburg intentionally removed the bottles from the refrigeration and did not replace them. Detectives wrote in court records that Brandenburg is an admitted conspiracy theorist and was convinced that vaccines would transform people’s DNA.

The destroyed vials contained sufficient doses to inoculate more than 500 people.

Brandenburg’s lawyer declined to comment.
