Pharmacies to start COVID-19 vaccination in Missouri on Friday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Edited to the Press / KY3) – After the recent White House announcement about the launch of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program for the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services found that federal partners selected 102 retail pharmacies Join Missouri in its effort to make the vaccine available efficiently to any eligible Missouri citizen.

“We appreciate the opportunity to work with our federal partners and provide an additional route for Missouri residents to receive a COVID-19 vaccine,” said Governor Mike Parson. “This partnership will be a great help in expanding access to the vaccine and putting more doses into weapons in the fastest and most efficient way possible.”

Eighty-one pharmacies at Walmart and Sam’s Club will begin receiving vaccines from a federal allocation (not outside the state’s weekly allocation), and vaccinations will begin on Friday, February 12 at participating locations in Missouri. In addition, 21 independent Health Mart pharmacies across Missouri will also begin receiving and administering vaccines in the future. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the federal program is being implemented incrementally based on the supply of available vaccine, with selected locations from retail pharmacies providing COVID-19 vaccine to eligible individuals. As vaccine availability increases over time, the program will expand to include all of the more than 40,000 pharmacies across the country.

“We are grateful to soon begin to see these additional doses of our federal partners available to residents of Missouri,” said Dr. Randall Williams, director of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS). “In conversations with the White House and our federal partners, these pharmacies were selected by them in the designated areas because of their accessibility to many communities in Missouri and the trusted pharmacies they built with their patients.”

In addition to the state’s limited weekly quota, Missouri’s 102 retail pharmacies are scheduled to receive a total of more than 18,000 doses per week. Qualified customers can schedule a vaccine appointment through the Walmart and Sam’s Club websites as soon as the appointments are available, making it more convenient to be vaccinated while distribution lasts.
