PGA Tour places Bryson DeChambeau rule for TPC Sawgrass

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida – After his victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Sunday, Bryson DeChambeau was asked if he had plans to take a different approach with his duration at this week’s Players Championship the way he did hitting a driver over the lake at sixth par 5 hole at Bay Hill.

“I thought about a few times at 18 going left to 9, ” said DeChambeau, referring to avoiding the lake that embraces the left side of the narrow 18th fairway. “It just gives you a better chance at the green, where you can get a little more right and you will always be fine. The cover (transport) is like 310 [yards], but we’ll see. I will look at all the options if there is an advantage in that. But if not, I will hit iron 4 on the fairway and, hopefully, an iron 8 or 7 on the green. ”

On Tuesday morning, DeChambeau said he planned to “probably try, but most likely it won’t happen”.

On Tuesday afternoon, the PGA Tour issued a statement with a new local rule that prohibits players from reaching the ninth hole on the 18th tee.

“In the interest of the safety of spectators, volunteers and other personnel, the Players’ Championship Rules Committee installed an out-of-bounds field to the left of the lake to play the 18th hole. at the Open Championship (hole 9) in 2017, the 2021 Sony Open in Hawaii (hole 13 and hole 18) and, more recently, the 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard (hole 6). ”

With DeChambeau almost certain not to try that shot at the competition, the whole exchange was humorous.

After his victory on Sunday, when he was asked about tournaments that tried to alter courses for him in the way they used to “tiger-proof” to combat the length of Tiger Woods, DeChambeau said, “I don’t think you can proof it. of Bryson a golf course. ”

There is, however, a Bryson rule in place this week.
