PGA Tour adds the third South Carolina event to replace the canceled Canadian Open

RIDGELAND, SC – The PGA Tour is returning to South Carolina for the third time this year, adding an event in the state of Palmetto in June to take the place of the canceled RBC Canadian Open.

The tour announced the addition on Tuesday. This means that the PGA Tour will be played three times in the state, starting with its regular annual event, the RBC Heritage on Hilton Head Island, in April. The best in the world will play the PGA Championship at The Ocean Course on Kiawah Island, near Charleston, in May.

The last event will be played at the Congaree Golf Club in Ridgeland, South Carolina, about 80 miles southwest of Charleston.

The organizers of the RBC Canadian Open said earlier this month that the event had to be canceled due to logistical challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tour said the new tournament, which still doesn’t have a name, will take place from June 10 to 13, the week in which the RBC Canadian Open will take place.
