PGA cancels plans to play the 2022 championship at Trump golf course

“The PGA of America Board of Directors voted tonight to exercise the right to terminate the agreement to play the 2022 PGA Championship at Trump Bedminster,” said Richerson in a written statement.

Stripe will stop processing Trump campaign donations because of encouraging violence

The PGA Championship is one of the four “biggest” in professional men’s golf – the four most prestigious tournaments in the professional golf calendar.

“It was clear that conducting the PGA Championship at Trump Bedminster would be detrimental to the PGA of America brand, would jeopardize PGA’s ability to deliver our many programs and sustain the longevity of our mission,” added Richerson in a video address. “It was a decision made to ensure that PGA of America and PGA Professionals can continue to lead and develop our great game for decades to come.”

The decision came after last week’s violent attack on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of President Donald Trump.

The Trump Organization said in a statement late on Sunday that the decision to withdraw the 2022 PGA Championship from the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey “is in violation of a binding contract and they have no right to terminate the agreement.”

The PGA of America has not announced a replacement camp to host the tournament, which is scheduled to be played in May 2022.
