FORT WAYNE, Indiana. (WPTA21) – A former professor of chemistry at Purdue University Fort Wayne was arrested, charged with a count of crimes stemming from a November incident involving a gun at a Fort Wayne restaurant.
ABC21 started Digging Deeper in the conflict over Donald E. Linn Jr. earlier this month, repeatedly contacting public university officials on the matter.
Although the location of the confrontation is not associated with the campus, officials from the Fort Wayne Police Department told ABC21 that the Purdue University Police Department Fort Wayne was handling the investigation.
The school-based department has full police powers and its website notes that its “jurisdiction currently extends beyond campus property to the entire state of Indiana.”
Requests for information from the university’s police department went unanswered, and a government spokesman told ABC21 last week: “We cannot comment on this matter at this time. We hope to be in a position to do so in the very near future. . “
On Saturday, the university provided the following statement:
Purdue University Fort Wayne is aware of the charges against Don Linn, a chemistry professor, which resulted from an off-campus incident in November. Our first priority, of course, is campus security. When the university was alerted to the incident in December, Dr. Linn was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the charges against him. We cannot comment further on this or any personal matter.
Records show that Allen County Chief Justice Frank Gull on Thursday approved a warrant on a single charge of pointing a firearm at another individual, a Level 6 crime.
ABC21 learned that the incident occurred at 21 Dicky Taps on block 2900 on South Maplecrest Road.
A restaurant manager declined to discuss the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Linn University website was taken down hours after his arrest.
His resume shows that he has been a teacher since 1988.
ABC21 renewed its request for information on the investigation.
A Level 6 crime is the lowest level of criminal prosecution in Indiana, most often involving a sentence between six months and 2.5 years, if imprisonment is ordered after conviction. A fine of up to R $ 10,000 can also be applied as a punishment.
