Pfizer requests authorization for its COVID vaccine in the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines – American drugmaker Pfizer has applied for Emergency Use Authorization (USA) for its COVID-19 vaccine in the Philippines, Malacañang said on Saturday.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) director general, Rolando Domingo, during a meeting in Malacañang with President Duterte and several Cabinet members, confirmed that Pfizer has filed a US order on the last December 23rd.

“The FDA will take 21 days to evaluate and approve the United States, but vaccination will begin as soon as supplies are available,” said Roque in a statement.

Securing a USA from the Philippine regulator will allow a new vaccine to be administered in the country.

The FDA previously said that applicants must first submit to the US regulatory agency in their home country before applying in the Philippines. The FDA will use the available data in its assessment.

Pfizer has already secured a USA for the US FDA.
