YouTube star Felix ‘PewDiePie’ Kjellberg announced in a new video that he was eliminating his facial camera to try to “stay relevant” with names like Dream and Corpse Husband.
Pewds is easily one of the most popular content creators on the internet, but in an effort to maintain its relevance, as he said, the Swede has announced a major change in his videos and streams in the future.
Fans don’t have to worry too much – since Pewds didn’t announce he was taking more time off – but he revealed a big change in his channel: getting rid of the facial camera.

PewDiePie is one of YouTube’s top creators and says he is trying to “stay relevant” by removing the facial camera.
In a new video posted on January 23, Pewds announced that he was doing an AKA “reverse face reveal”, just getting rid of his camera facing himself and replacing it with an avatar like Dream, Corpse Husband or any of other YouTubers that have already passed the trend.
“I realized that the only way to stay relevant on this point is that I need to do this,” joked Kjellberg. “Corpse husband: no face camera, no face revealed, extremely popular. Dream: no face camera, no face reveal, extremely popular. “
True to his word for the rest of the video, Pewds ended up with the camera and just used an icon, but he has not yet defined a final avatar and is asking for help from fans.
“I haven’t chosen my avatar yet, so I figured out why not you guys on the PewDiePie upload subreddit?” PewDiePie added. “Help me choose my 3D avatar, because they all have one.”
Hopefully, fans can come up with something a little better than the image Pewds chose for this video, although it was hilarious – it’s not what you want people to see whenever they tune in.
It also remains to be seen how long PewDiePie will maintain this trick. Sure, streaming with a 3D avatar or without a facial camera is in vogue now, but it could be argued that Kjellberg would probably survive without one.
