Peter Moore returns to the video game market and joins Unity

Peter Moore, a tattoo enthusiast and former executive of Sega, Microsoft and Electronic Arts, is returning to the gaming industry. Moore announced Wednesday on Twitter that he joined engine maker Unity Technologies to lead his sports and live entertainment division as senior vice president and general manager.

Moore, 66, has spent the past four years in the dream job of a sports fanatic: chief executive of Liverpool Football Club, his favorite team since childhood. During their tenure, the Reds won the Premier League in the 2019-20 season, their first championship in 30 years. The club also won the UEFA Champions League title in 2019 (and the Super Cup after that), in addition to the FIFA Club World Cup in 2019.

Prior to that, Moore spent a decade as an executive at Electronic Arts (with time as its chief operating officer and president of EA Sports). Upon joining Unity, Moore will meet with John Riccitiello, who brought Moore to EA in 2007, when he was its CEO. Riccitiello is currently the CEO of Unity.

Personal and well known to longtime video game fans, Moore is also remembered as the president of Sega of America during the Dreamcast launch in 1999 (and, less fortunately, the guy who had to announce the premature end of the console).

After that, he joined Microsoft’s Xbox division, where he’s best known for ensuring Halo 2November 9, 2004, release date with a tattoo on his right arm.

Although Moore still timidly answers questions about the ink, its continued existence has not been confirmed.
